At Coffy’s Café, we’re seeking higher grounds. A wholly-owned operation of the nonprofit Seeker Center for Spiritual Growth, Coffy’s Café focuses on gluten-free, natural meals. Our menu also includes vegetarian selections and many old-fashioned, home-cooked goodies you would never suspect are gluten-free. Coffy’s Café is the place to find friends, find peace, and find great food, coffee and teas! We support local artists and feature local singer-songwriters almost every week.

At the adjacent Seeker Center, we will offer meditation, yoga, classes and workshops on a diverse array of spiritual and self-help topics. We will also offer a unique assortment of books, CDs, handmade gifts, incense and spiritually-themed items.

Come visit us at 1739 N.W. 16th Street in Oklahoma City, in the Plaza District.

About Celiac Disease and the Gluten-Free Movement

Celiac disease is an immune reaction to gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. An estimated 2 million Americans suffer from celiac disease – or one in 133 people – though many have never been diagnosed and are not receiving treatment. Some adults have celiac disease for a decade or more before they are diagnosed.

Symptoms are varied and extensive, making diagnosis difficult. Symptoms may include abdominal bloating and pain, chronic diarrhea or constipation, irritability, depression or anxiety, fatigue, arthritis, an itchy skin rash, tingling numbness in the hands and feet, infertility or recurrent miscarriage, and more.

When people with celiac disease eat foods or use products containing gluten, their immune system responds by damaging or destroying villi—the tiny, fingerlike protrusions lining the small intestine. Villi normally allow nutrients from food to be absorbed through the walls of the small intestine into the bloodstream. Without healthy villi, a person becomes malnourished, no matter how much food one eats.
